Former Chairman or CEO of billion dollar corporations in the construction, housing, hospitality, gaming, property development, information technology, banking and insurance industries. A past member of the Business Council of Australia.
Founding Chairman of the Centre for International Research on Communication and Information Technologies based at RMIT University; President as well as CEO (and Life Member) of the Australian Computer Society; World President of the International Federation for Information Processing, and in 1999 achieved the rare honour of being elected an Honorary Member of that body. A Governor of the International Council for Computer Communication; and in 1996 the Peoples Republic of China honoured him by electing him a Fellow of the Chinese Institute of Electronics (One of only 5 Foreign Fellows).

He has served on many government boards including the Australian Science and Technology Council; the Australian Payments System Council; National Library; and Consultant to the Australian Law Reform Commission. In 2003 he was a recipient of the Centenary Medal, created to honour living persons who have made an outstanding contribution to Australian society or government.
