PRESS RELEASE
A Brisbane-based software company, uniDap Solutions Pty. Ltd., has developed a ground-breaking patented technology which creates an environment that literally does away with the need for highly paid programmers.
Led by well-known IT veteran, Professor Ashley Goldsworthy as Executive Chairman and CEO, the company has recently launched a suite of products build upon the after four years of research and development effort.
Goldsworthy, who has extensive experience as a CEO in business and IT for almost 50 years, and who first programmed computers in the 1960’s, said that despite the enormous benefits computer-based systems have brought to business, they have always been accompanied by three costly problems-
1 projects not being delivered on time and on budget,
2 subsequent changes being enormously expensive and time consuming, and
3 the need to utilise expensive programmers.
uniDap Solutions has turned application development on its head. uniDap’s breakthrough technology creates a unique environment that is setting a very high benchmark in customer satisfaction, by delivering exactly what the client wants, on time and within budget.
“In the uniDap environment the entire development process is focussed on configuring the client’s requirements into the exact solution they want rather than writing code”, Goldsworthy said.
Goldsworthy explained that the uniDap technology involved installing the patented uniDap toolset on the client’s computer system and through a revolutionary methodology is able to insert new data, extract and integrate data without the need to reprogram the original database.
“How often”, he said, “do you want to add another field to your application and are told by the IT people it will take days, weeks, or even months?” With uniDap it can be done by the client in real time in minutes.
As Goldsworthy said, you have to see it to appreciate the power of the technology and toolset.
One of the great bugbears with computer systems is the cost and expense of making changes. Conventional systems require extensive reprogramming to implement new reporting requirements from existing systems. For example, with most applications it requires extensive reprogramming of data items and tables in the database.
The uniDap technology not only obviates this but has the enormous advantage of being able to be configured in real time by non-IT staff. With a minimum of training office staff can sit down at their desktop and re-configure the reporting requirements, insert new data items into the database, remove unwanted items, link items, and so on all through their screen.
Another significant benefit highlighted by Goldsworthy was the fact that this revolution now made a solution available to small business which hitherto was the preserve of big business.
Small businesses could not afford their own IT department and were constrained by inflexible software packages. Suppliers generally had a take it or leave it mentality. Customisation was not their business. uniDap now gives such companies the ability to manage their own online applications.
For example, let’s look at the very simple example of adding a new telephone field to an existing application. With conventional systems this requires changes to the database schema and the source code. There is a consequent high risk of errors, the changes may be complex, and it will take hours or days of expensive programmer time, and it has to be scheduled to minimise impact on users.
With the uniDap toolset installed there are NO changes to the database schema or the source code, the insertion of a new data item (a new telephone field) is a simple data entry function done by office staff through their desktop without any disruption of users or any downtime- and most importantly no need for testing. There is no risk and no downtime, and the cost is negligible rather than thousands of dollars.
In essence, uniDap is a revolution which the patent examiner described as “novel and inventive”; it is user driven, it enables user staff to implement changes from their desktops, it delivers solutions in real time, it integrates with, builds on, and (ultimately) displaces existing operating systems and data management solutions, it connects all information according to context and purpose, it allows the capture of output from existing sources, and files it according to its context, it enables everybody to become a knowledge worker and a knowledge manager, and most importantly it can be implemented at a fraction of the time and cost of conventional solutions.
One very significant advantage is that it delivers is web based applications and therefore is at the forefront of cloud computing and hence gives management real time access to information anywhere anytime. The much vaunted cloud computing becomes a reality with uniDap.
uniDap is the brainchild of one of the founders of the company, Wolfgang Flatow, who is Technical Director of uniDap Solutions, and has been working on the project for several years.
Goldsworthy said the uniDap platform would prove a boon to small and medium enterprises and could save large organisations hundreds of thousands of dollars.
